GMJF Summer Camp Scholarships

Greater Miami Jewish Federation offering overnight summer camp scholarships

The Greater Miami Jewish Federation is making available need-based scholarships to help make Jewish overnight summer camping a reality for all families in the community. Attached is a scholarship application to be distributed to and completed by financially deserving families, along with a list of camps eligible for funding assistance.

This past summer, 85 Miami-Dade children received scholarship assistance to attend a variety of Jewish overnight camps. These grants are made possible by funds raised through Federation’s annual campaign and from the Foundation of Jewish Philanthropies’ Sam and Miriam Goldstein Fund.

Federation works closely with Synagogue and Day School Rabbis, educators and administrators to help promote this scholarship program, identify families in need, and coordinate resources to maximize camping opportunities for children in the community. We ask congregations to please:

    • Identify and approach prospective families that may want a Jewish camping experience for their children, making them aware of the program, and providing them with this scholarship application, or having them contact Federation;
    • If possible, coordinate Synagogue and School resources with this scholarship program and inform us of any financial support, so Federation can partner with you accordingly; and
    • As part of Federation’s funding assistance to your prospective families, recommend to us scholarship amounts you deem appropriate for these applicants.

To be eligible for this scholarship program, applicants must:

    • Reside in Miami-Dade County;
    • Demonstrate financial need and submit, in addition to an application, the appropriate paperwork, including a copy of their most recent tax return; and
    • Be accepted for attendance at one of the camps eligible for funding assistance.

This year, camp scholarship applications are due to Federation by January 25, 2008. Those received up to January 25th receive initial consideration. Those received after that date will be considered on an availability-of-funds basis.
