Rabbi Teutsch Program
Our Reconstructionist neighbor to the north, RAMAT SHALOM , invites the community to a discussion:
FEATURING RABBI DAVID TEUTSCH
JANUARY 27, 2008 9:30 AM
Rabbi Teutsch will offer an overview of Jewish speech ethics: "Wielding the Power to Create Worlds and Destroy Lives: The Ethics of Speech". Jews have always regarded words as having great power and therefore have been attentive to the many ethical concerns that speech can raise. This overview of Jewish speech ethics will leave plenty of time for questions and dialogue. There will be a nominal charge of $5.00 per person for non-members attending the Sunday morning program.
Rabbi David Teutsch is Director of the Center for Jewish Ethics and the Louis & Myra Wiener Professor of Contemporary Jewish Civilization at the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College, where he previously served as President for a decade. As Editor-in Chief for the groundbreaking seven-volume Kol Haneshamah Reconstructionist prayerbook series, he recently published Ethics of Speech, the fourth book in A Guide to Jewish Practice, which takes a values-based approach to both ethical and ritual matters. He is also the author of Spiritual Community: The Power to Restore Hope, Commitment and Joy (Jewish Lights, 2005) and dozens of other books and articles.
Rabbi Rebecca studied with Rabbi Teutsch for several years, and she highly recommends this opportunity to study with a leading Reconstructionist scholar.
